Technical Specifications

GAIA's Quality Standards

These specifications represent the quality benchmarks GAIA values in jewelry production. They are based on GAIA's experience and customer expectations. GAIA welcomes suppliers who can meet these standards or propose superior alternatives that enhance durability, aesthetics, and customer satisfaction.

Base Material

Sterling Silver Ag925

All GAIA jewelry is crafted from sterling silver (92.5% silver content) as the foundation. This ensures structural integrity and compatibility with various plating and finishing techniques. Skin safety depends on the full metal + plating system.

Plating Standards

Plating systems (current requirements)

Gold-tone requirement:

Warm 14K-tone appearance (color matched to the approved sample). Suppliers propose the plating stack and thickness (μm) in the quotation.

Silver-tone requirement:

Ag925 → Pd 0.50 μm → Rh 0.10 μm (silver appearance; improved wear resistance and surface hardness).

Suppliers may propose improved plating systems. Any alternative proposal must include the full stack and thickness (μm).

Gemstones

Gemstone policy (current catalog)

GAIA's current catalog uses natural zircon (including natural white zircon) as specified per SKU. If any gemstone has undergone treatment or enhancement, suppliers disclose the exact method in writing before sampling and on the quotation/PI.

Enamel Work

Cold Enamel / Epoxy Enamel

Selected designs feature enamel work to achieve specific color effects. GAIA values:

  • Smooth, even surface without bubbles or pitting
  • Color accuracy matching approved samples or Pantone references
  • Durable adhesion that resists chipping or peeling
  • Gradient effects executed with precision (where applicable)

Surface Finishing

High Polish Finish

All GAIA pieces feature a high-polish finish to maximize light reflection and visual appeal. GAIA expects:

  • Mirror-like surface free from scratches, tool marks, or oxidation
  • Consistent polish across all visible surfaces
  • Smooth edges and transitions between design elements

Quality Expectations

Inspection & Consistency

GAIA values partners who maintain rigorous quality control throughout production:

  • Dimensional accuracy within ±0.2mm of technical specifications
  • Weight consistency within ±5% of target weight
  • Visual inspection to ensure no defects reach final packaging
  • Batch consistency so pieces from the same order are indistinguishable

Material Safety

Nickel-Free Materials

GAIA requires suppliers to disclose any nickel-containing steps in the plating or finishing process. For skin-contact jewelry (earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets), suppliers must propose nickel-free alternatives. GAIA values suppliers who can provide nickel-free solutions without compromising quality.

Certifications (Optional)

If suppliers' facility holds any of the following certifications, suppliers are welcome to mention them in inquiries. While not required, they demonstrate suppliers' commitment to quality and ethical practices:

  • RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) Certification
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management
  • Nickel-free testing certification
  • Lead-free and cadmium-free testing certification
  • Hypoallergenic testing certification

These specifications reflect GAIA's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. GAIA recognizes that every supplier brings unique expertise and capabilities. If suppliers have suggestions for alternative materials, processes, or finishes that could enhance GAIA's products, GAIA welcomes suppliers' input during the collaboration discussion.
